"With the desire to serve up the best tasting Mexican food ever in Los Angeles, the Herrera family started what has become a bright spot on L.A.'s culinary map. The culmination of their efforts came in 2005 when Yuca's won the coveted James Beard Award in the “America's Classics” category. The award acknowledged what loyal customers and various print media had already enshrined: If you want quality food cooked from the heart – the kind it's a joy to line up for - head for Yuca's, a family owned and operated eatery."
About 2 years ago, a good friend of mine brought me to Yuca's and I've been hooked ever since. A random hut located in a liquor store parking lot is the grounds for some wonderful family made tacos. Family owned since 1976, you can see the entire family their everyday running the place. Its so traditional in fact, the matriarch of the family is also the cashier and she uses no cash register or calculator. She writes the numbers down on a white paper plate, and busts the arithmetic right there in your face. Seeing math still done by hand could be worth the trip alone. Fresh carne asada, melted cheese, onions, tomatoes and a smile really sums up Yuca's for me. And while I have ventured and had a burrito once or twice, I always find myself coming right back to the tacos. Really nothing more to be said, I'll let the pictures do the talking. It's a MUST try, simple as that.
Oh and a word of advice. They close PROMPTLY at 6pm, 6 days a week. Check the website for the full menu, and write back to tell me how right I was!
