Hip Hop’s Favorite Producer 9th WONDER and the True School Corporation does. We all remember a time in our life when entertainment symbolized fun and excitement. For most of us, we can only visit these events in our memories and dream of a time we can have them back. Friday the True School Corporation will take us on a journey through the times once forgotten, when music and television was in its truest forms. The True School Corporation is dedicated to preserving a time when music, television, and entertainment were at their purest forms. Exploring an era that not only provided great entertainment, but taught social awareness and responsibility to the masses; the night will include a selection of the best music and films from a timeline seventeen year time line (1980 – 1997).

This Friday, join 9th Wonder and special guests as they present to you the “True School House Party” at Wonderland Night Club. Spinning nothing but classic records from the Golden Era.

Nothing is healthy than some good laughter, and while you could listen to your friends “knock knock” jokes, its better to leave some things up to the pros.

Tonight at the Comedy Union some of the best will hit the stage to tickle your funny bone. Hosted by Dwann Brown and featuring Steve Matthews, Henry Coleman, Chris Sneed, Barry Brewer, Kanisha Buss and Joey Wells. The comedians will take the stage to send of their NBA friends back to camp with some laughter.

When some one says “Street Food,” everyone usually thinks about those “danger dogs” (bacon wrapped hot dogs) sold near parking lots and club exits. If you have driven around LA lately you may have seen people lined up for blocks at seemingly average lunch trucks. Danger dogs and average lunch trucks are everything but the definition of “Street Food” in 2010.

If you think back to the days when the sound of the ice cream truck would send you on a frenzy, scrambling for your penny bank to get a ice cream bar. Much to the same affect are many of Southern California’s new street food vendors. Gourmet meals ranging from “Rasta Tacos” to “Kalbi Burritos” can be located on any random block in the city, with a line wrapped around.

Whether you follow a favorite food truck or a frequent taco stand, Saturday  you can sample over 60 of these street food vendors in one place…and for one price! Where?

This Saturday, July 24th, The LA Street Food Fest Summer Tasting Event will allow you to “enjoy sampling signature bites from more than 60 vendors including hot gourmet food trucks, old school carts and stands, celeb chefs and street inspired dishes from LA’s best restaurants. Our open bars and beer gardens will keep you hydrated ‘n happy with cold suds, delicious cocktails, tequila tasting, juices and more.” Located inside the beautiful Rose Bowl, good eats and drinks accompanied by music make for a great afternoon. Summer is officially here, and though the heat took a while, I can definitely feel the change in the weather.  For the past 7 years there has been one sure constant.  Summer Rain! No not downpours and high humidity, and not the Carl Thomas jam, but when we celebrate the Elevated Anniversary and some special July birthdays.  No pretentious Hollywood nonsense, this is a party, dance, drink and be merry.  You can check the photos last year...

The White Party is has become a global staple for partying Memorial Day. Not sure when it started, but we are back for the 6th year, and I know we do it better. Throwing on a white tee, and some forces is not acceptable, the purpose of a white party is to exhibit fresh, with only white attire to work with. Lets see how you fair amongst some of Hollywood’s best.

While you may have not made it out to the desert for Coachella, there is another opportunity for a multi day music festival. For twenty-four years UCLA has hosted the Annual JazzReggae Fesitival on Memorial Day Weekend, splitting up great performers between two days, Jam Day [Sunday, May 30th] & Reggae Day [Monday May 31st].

The weatherman is promising some warm weather and the line up pretty much guarantees some great shows. On Jam Day we are set to hear from favorites The Foreign Exchange, Raphael Saadiq, Q-Tip, Bilal, Georgia Anne Muldrow & Declaime, Quadron and many more. For Reggae Day Barrington Levy, Nneka along with Nas and Damian Marley performing songs of their new collaborative project.

Get out the house and enjoy live music with a few thousand people on the holiday weekend.

Soul Loft was birthed from a need. A need for emerging artists to have a free space to present their craft in front of new and old audiences, thus allowing them to build their fan base. The LA music scene is full of pay-to-play deals that do more to disadvantage an artist than it does to support their growing artistry.

Elle B is a Los Angeles native and singer/songwriter who’s own experience on the LA scene pushed her to create the space for artist’s like herself. Bi-monthly, she hosts friends, family and new fans with at The Ca’Brea restaurant (346 La Brea, between 3rd & 4th Street).

Soul Loft features Local Brew – the resident Soul Loft house band lead by musical director, Reggie Johnson. Soul Loft plays the funkiest and most soulful sounds around from popular artist covers to the more obscure but ever musical b-sides. Local Brew also makes itself available to artists who do not have their own band, so that Soul Loft remains accessible to ALL artists.

Soul Loft also features an off-hours happy hour from 7p-10p, featuring $3 beers, $5 wine and cocktails and $5 appetizer menu.

Finally, Soul Loft will be filmed and distributed online as a web series. Videographer and director, Carey Williams (www.themadhype.com) has teamed up with Elle B and Soul Loft to provide a more in-depth look at our featured artists with a brief interview and a highlighted song from each artist’s set that night. By sharing Soul Loft with the online community (and world-at-large), Elle B hopes to support fellow artists gain a wide audience and bring the consumers love of music back to the basics.

After we climb 1377 the Elevated Crew will head over to a special Earth Day event.  Broccoli City and JBC along with several environmental friendly organizations will gather outside of Margo Studios on 1354 Margo St, in downtown Los Angeles, CA to host GLOBAL COOLIN’ aka EARTH DAY XL (celebrate Earth), a music and art celebration commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day.  The block party will take place inside and outside of Margo Studios in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles to raise awareness and highlight ways in which we can all make an effort to save OUR Earth. This green festival will include live music, food, drinks, vendors, and earth greening activities (ie: tree planting and other games for kids). The event will be hosted by Devi Dev of 93.5 KDAY with DJ Sean G Spinning and live performances from DOM Kennedy, Pac Div, Skeme, Rob Roy, OverDoZ, Casey Veggies and more, soon to be announced.
