Fast food, high speeds and instant access, have turned us into what many call the Microwave Generation, impatient and for the most part selfish. We often have trouble taking things slow, respecting and appreciating the process. It is in all of us in some way, with most things we want it NOW!
There is one thing I try my hardest to be patient with, and accepting of the offering as it was intended for me to receive it, music. Not all, but the products of my favorites, Jay-Z, The Roots, Common and OutKast, to name a few. One thing about patience, when you wait, you are most times more excited, as you sit disciplined waiting for that first listen. When the rumors of a joint album between Kanye & Jay-Z, arrived we were all ecstatic. Followed with tweets and photos actual recording session and an opportunity to pre-order we know now, this is real!
Shortly after “Otis” the first single appears in the typical format, leak with radio tags, and then CD quality. I have had to duck and dodge because I would much rather listen to the whole completed project then be teased by pieces of what is likely a master piece. A couple “friends” have tried to sabotage a tradition we started in high school, but I am determined to make it the next week plus, with out tainting my first listen.
